Welcome to the Program in Medieval Studies at Rutgers University. The Program is an interdisciplinary enterprise that offers an undergraduate major, an undergraduate minor, and a certificate program for graduate students. Courses in medieval fields at Rutgers are taught by an outstanding faculty, many of whom have achieved international recognition for their work.
Faculty interests range from the last centuries of the Roman world to the heyday of Renaissance Italy, from Byzantium to Iceland, and from the deciphering of Latin inscriptions to the analysis of Chaucer and Dante. Because of its interdisciplinary nature, students involved in the program have the opportunity to take courses and work with faculty in many departments, including Art History, Classics, English, History, Religion, Philosophy and several of the Romance and Germanic language departments.
