Harvest of the Middle Ages

History 211 and Medieval Studies 667:282 are crosslisted courses designed to provide an understanding of key aspects of the history of Europe during the four centuries between the First Crusade and the voyages of discovery, AD 1100-1500. Special attention will be paid to the renaissance of the twelfth century, the development of the medieval church, the rise of centralized states, and the late medieval crisis. Each major topic will be presented through a combination of lectures, assigned readings, and film.
